JODIE NAGEL

Who Am I?

Hi! My name is Jodie. Welcome to my new blog where I write about all of my adventures. I’ve been a stay at home momma for 23 years. I currently have 10 children (1 of them heaven side), including one Down’s syndrome boy. I have homeschooled all of them. We currently live in an RV while we build our house. My days are crazy a lot of the time, but my faith is the most important thing in my life and my one Constant in a world of chaos. I love writing, photography, home birth, homeschooling, minimalism …so many things! Mostly, I love finding myself again, after years of diapers and SO MUCH laundry. I really hope someday, to learn how to play guitar, piano, water paint and to draw. My childhood dream is to write and illustrate children’s books. I’m not sure when I’ll have the time to learn any of that… as my husband assures me that I will never be and empty nester… but the dream is alive! I can’t wait to take you with me on this new adventure here! See blog posts here<<

It Gets Real in an RV!

Our Full-Time RV adventure began in 2020, when we left the state of MN (and it’s long winters) and moved to Arkansas. It was good timing, as all of our children were still living at home and could join us. Everyone was so excited, and maybe a little nervous, as we packed up our farmhouse and began the craziest adventure. At first, I thought the idea of living in an RV was nuts! I didn’t really consider it an option until my daughter showed me a camper that had two bathrooms and slept 14. (trust me… that was huge when we all got the stomach flu) I ended up really liking the option of being able to travel around while we searched for our Forever Land to build on. Whenever I am following our camper to a new location, I marvel at the semis on the road and remember that our home is still so much smaller. After two years of searching for the right property, we slowly began the building process. I have never regretted moving us all in to an RV, but I very much look forward to it being a memory! This photo was taken after our first ten months when we were packed up to move on to our second location. We still look mostly sane! Read more about our wild, crazy fun adventure in an RV here.

Meet Timothy!

Timmy is our sweet, busy, adventurous, “don’t take your eyes off of him” boy! Today he is fifteen years old (2024). Sometimes, he feels like your typical fifteen year old boy. He tries to sleep as late as possible, is always hungry, and LOVES to tease his sisters. He feels very eleven when he’s standing next to or wrestling with his eleven year old brother. He feels maybe four when he’s in school practicing his letters, or even younger as he is nowhere near ready to pronounce them. But always, whether he feels 15, 11, or even 4, he is lovable. He has had four surgeries, including two Open Heart. He has given me several scares as he has wandered off of the property on his own. He loves routine and feels so happy when he is helping out. He loves animals, be it real, stuffed or in a book. He is so compassionate. Strong feelings of sadness or anger upset him. Sign Language has been a God-send! I am not convinced yet that his current hearing aids will make a difference. Therapy 2.0 has been amazing and he loves it. All in all, though his progress through all of the typical milestones is usually delayed, it is still there. I am amazed as I look back over the years and see how much he really has changed.
